Forcast of the Day: Winter is Coming

forcast-black-dress-cutout-style-smorgasbord

Forcast of the Day: Winter is Coming. Its Monday. You need something subtle, something that says pay ah-tention to get through the week. You remember the steal of a dress you picked up a month ago that you’ve forgotten about. It sucks everything in and has cut outs in all the work-appropriate places. Its figure-hugging but not so tight you can’t skip up the stairs if need be. You slip on the court heels that you’ve been wearing all week (no breaking in needed! haven’t had any blisters so that gets a huge tick!), shrug on a coat in this season’s it colour and you’re done.

Forcast: Balmy Autumn Weekend

forcast-of-the-day

Forcast of the Day: A Balmy Autumn Weekend. You wake up and it’s 7am, Saturday, last weekend of the season. Far too early for a weekend for sure. Its chillier than usual but you haven’t taken the thickest duvet out of your storage cabinet yet. Just another monotonous item to add to your things-to-catch-up-on list.

You consider staying under the covers to scroll through Instagram but then you decide that you need caffeine to power through the day: local markets, spin class, brunch, grocery run, late lunch …. You crave a Trenta, no foam, five-shot half-caf, no foam pumpkin spice latte with no foam at 210 degrees. Then you realise you don’t have a designer name nor a trust fund so you roll out of bed and get dressed.

You pull on the turtleneck you’ve been wearing everyday this past week – the one that can be unbuttoned at the neck to be a cowl neck and the one that looks good over a tulle skirt, under overalls and with a blazer. You slide into some jeans and moccasins, both varying shades of autumn and nod to yourself, Jobs had the right idea.

Then its 5pm and somehow your things-t0-catch-up-on list has grown longer and you’ve done nothing all day. You have to start getting ready for dinner, you need to be out the door five minutes ago. Its too late to change so you start trying on the heels stashed under your bed. You start with a patent block heel Mary Jane then you lace on some suede oxfords but nothing seems to work. At the last minute, you see your half patent, half suede court heels, buckle yourself in and troop out the door.

How brilliant is the colour of my Longchamp? At first I was worried such a vivid colour would not be practical for everyday use but in retrospect this Tiffany box blue pops brightly among a sea of the classic navy ones. I’ve been using it for more than a semester now and its been such a little trooper. Big, durable, fits my mac and camera and so incredibly light. It only has one pocket which I keep my phone and keys in but for everything else I have individual bags so I’m not rooting around aimlessly.

The palm leaves on my skort are for summer, the pastel collared top is for spring, the rainboots are for autumn and the plaid is for winter. The Sydney weather has been wild these past weeks. In the Blue Mountains it was snowing one week and then the next there was a bushfire?!?! Regardless, I prepare myself for these wild days ahead by layering and repeating. I also cope by eating beautiful pastries like those croissants … mmm layers and layers of viennoiserie. How is everyone else doing weather wise?

A while ago, I read somewhere that blogging gives a person a different perspective on things. Everything suddenly has potential to be a flatlay background, to be a prop, to naturally divide your photos into beautiful thirds. Your wardrobe becomes ‘shoppable’ again. I bought this sweater from a Las Vegas outlet back in oh nine. It was a favourite during my Massie Block phase with a plaid skirt but then disappeared for years when I thought sweaters, leggings, CR bags and UGGs were the uniform for non uniform days. Shudder. It makes a return in twenty fifteen with this Alexa Chung inspired coat, joggers and a BIG scarf. Maybe I’ll shudder again in six years at the idea of skinny jeans with trainers but for now I dig it so much.

I was shooting for a Southern Curls & Pearls  inspired colour scheme and I thought it turned out alright. Salmon and coral may be from the same section of the colour wheel but they go together beautifully when broken up with some white and tan. I can’t believe my winter break is over already! It was definitely a fun break and I’ll be sure to create a jam packed July wrap up before August trickles in.

Red Lip Classic Thing

Style will forever be one of my favourite Swift songs along with the piano rendition of Forever & Always, Never Grow Up and Begin Again. Its lyrically, vocally and musically beautiful and it will never go out of style (pun intended!). I wouldn’t say my style is classic per se because I’m young enough to throw random stuff together and leave the door without much thought but I do like the idea of modern prep which I think is how I would describe my go to style … which brings me to this lightweight trench coat. With the winter solstice behind us, that means we can start looking forward (maybe a little too early but I’m just wishful like that) to longer days and warmer weather very soon! It was 5 degrees this morning when I left for university but much warmer when the sun was beaming so I really shouldn’t complain. I like keeping it all loose like a goose with this coat and then layering my infinity scarf and furry snug for maximum impact. Add some fun printed pants, practical boots, a classic leather band watch, bright lips and you have my personality in an outfit – bubbly, practical and imperfect!

Oversized

oversied10

I have a couple of coats on rotation this winter and one of them is this duffel coat from my Auntie (Hi Auntie Stephanie!). Its very oversized on me but by tucking in the sleeves for a 3/4 length style, it looks like its meant to be boxy. I have become more resistant to the cool weather this year so now I can get away with wearing my summer tops under big coats and with double the amount of options, its a whole new ball game with my wardrobe. Exciting times people! Speaking of … exams are over soon, two down, two more to go. Come the following Friday, its a month long winter break whee hee and I’m committed to spending as much time as possible outdoors creating great content and filling my calendar with a plethora of activities to make the most of my staycation. Whilst it would be nice to jet off for some northern hemisphere sun, there’s actually so much of my own backyard that I haven’t seen so I plan to see more of my own city in July.

Or in my case, slashed knee jeans. No bad blood here just a really great ribbed sweater from Trendsgal and a serious side part to hide that 3rd day hair. I used to hate these types of coats because the ones in my wardrobe were all varying shades of pink and I really didn’t need to look like a giant marshmallow when my cheeks were already so red from the cold. Now, I found myself reaching for this jacket more times than I care to admit.

It’s So Fluffy I’m Going To

… self combust with coziness! I wear this when I need to spend a whole day studying in the library but I refuse to turn to fleece and ugg boots. I got this huge coat back in the summer but I’ve been saving it for winter and now that its June and stuvac is right around the corner, I probably won’t be taking it off for a while. I feel like a toddler in my grey leggings and matching jumper but that’s the great thing about this coat, its so distracting that people don’t really notice my lack of face definition amongst other things ….
